Calvary partners with several nonprofits in San Francisco – going beyond the walls is a great way to be the church at work. Seeking guidance from Jesus' radical ministry, Calvary has several volunteer-led initiatives, such as our Racial Equity Initiative and Living Sanctuary Ministry supporting immigrants and refugees.

Volunteer Opportunity: Donate Blood (because of you, life doesn't stop!) Sunday, May 3 9:00am-1:00pm   Save lives with Calvary. We're hosting a blood drive on Sunday, January 3, 2026, from 9am – 12:45 pm. Blood donors are vital to life and always needed.   When you give blood, you have the potential to help hospital patients within our community and, when the need arises, others across the country. Donate blood to help trauma patients, as well as those battling disease and other chronic health conditions.   All blood types needed. Join Calvary in feeding the hungry and unhoused in our local community. The church has a long-standing volunteer commitment, in months that have a 5th Saturday, at Martin de Porres House of Hospitality to prepare, serve and clean up after a hot soup lunch for San Francisco’s hungriest citizens. Martin’s, as it is affectionately known, is a free restaurant, serving breakfast and lunch six days a week. Martin’s mission is to serve in the spirit of compassion, understanding and love. 
Saturdays January 31, May 30, Aug 29 Shift 1: 9-11:30am (food prep) Shift 2: 11:30am-3pm (food service & clean-up) If would like to volunteer from 9am - 3:00pm, please sign up for both shifts. Volunteers must be 15 years of age or older (ages 15-17 require a parent OR adult chaperone). Masks and gloves encouraged. Guests eat inside the dining room or outside in the courtyard. Would you like to be an Usher at Calvary?

Building community relies on being a welcoming and hospitable space for folks of all ages, races, orientations, and abilities to find respite and peace here at Calvary.

Our Ushers help welcome in our congregation - both new and familiar faces - before and during our 10am Sunday Service.

  • Greet people as they walk through the doors
  • Hand them a Sunday bulletin packet and any other handout we may have for them that day
  • Direct folks to Calvin Hall or the restrooms
  • Collect the offering toward the end of the service
  • Answer any questions people might have or find a staff person to help
