Find purpose and community at volunteer opportunities at Calvary and with our various nonprofit partners across San Francisco.

Interfaith Food Pantry

This volunteer service happens every month!

Interested in helping alleviate hunger and food insecurity in our community? Come volunteer at the
Interfaith Food Pantry located at Old First Presbyterian Church. Help organize and distribute groceries for 300+ families. Note: weather permitting, food distribution takes place outside in the fresh air!

Volunteer qualifications:

  • Volunteers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
  • Volunteers must wear masks and gloves and practice social distancing
  • Volunteers must not have any COVID-19 or flu symptoms, feel ill, or have any known recent exposure to COVID

The Interfaith Food Pantry rotates responsibility for each Saturday food pantry among five participating churches, with each church taking the lead to ensure enough volunteers. While we cannot eliminate all risk, we organize operations to maximize safety for volunteers and participants, and we have had no reports of COVID cases among volunteers since the start of the pandemic. We provide masks, gloves, refreshments, and parking validation at the Old First Presbyterian Church Garage.

Martin de Porres

Calvary has a long-standing volunteer commitment, in months that have a 5th Saturday, at Martin de Porres House of Hospitality to prepare, serve and clean up after a soup lunch for San Francisco’s hungriest citizens.

Martin’s, as it is affectionately known, is a free restaurant, serving breakfast and lunch six days a week. Martin’s mission is to serve in the spirit of compassion, understanding and love.

Pack-a-Sack

Pack-a-Sack is one of Calvary’s long-standing serving opportunities where volunteers of all ages assemble ‘to-go’ meals for people living without permanent housing. Each meal includes 2 sandwiches, fresh fruit and snacks which are then distributed in partnership with local non-profits such as Martin de Porres House of Hospitality, SF SafeHouse and The Hope Center, SF Night Ministry, and The Gubbio Project. Pack-a-Sack is an intergenerational serving opportunity and is organized by Calvary’s Board of Deacons, Social Justice Team. Join us!

Interfaith Winter Shelter

Since 1988, in partnership with the SF Interfaith Council and the city’s interfaith community, Calvary volunteers have partnered to operate the SF Interfaith Winter Shelter, designed to augment the city’s existing shelter opportunities during the coldest months of the year. The shelter provides breakfast, dinner, and a safe place for overnight rest for up to 100 people experiencing homelessness each night.

Calvary volunteers grocery shop, cook, and serve a hot meal. Over 70 volunteers are needed to cover a week at the shelter, located at the Unitarian Church on Franklin Street. Some nights are reserved for specific affinity groups (Calvary Young Adults or Youth Ministries) and each shift is 3 hours. The Interfaith Winter Shelter is a great way to make a meaningful difference in someone’s day.

Volunteer opportunity - DONATE BLOOD
Calvary is hosting a blood drive on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 9am – 12:45pm. Blood donors are vital to life and especially needed right now.
When you give blood, you have the potential to help hospital patients within our community and, when the need arises, others across the country. Donate blood to help trauma patients, as well as those battling disease and other chronic health conditions.
All blood types needed. The blood donation process takes about an hour.
Get ready to save lives with Calvary!
Please register in advance – Click to sign up – blood donors with appointments will be taken before walk-ins.
Questions? Please contact Robin Morjikian at robinmorjikian@calpres.org.
Please note, due to health and safety protocols, only blood donors will be permitted to enter the Bloodmobile; please do not bring non-donor friends and family with you.
