Senior Adults—Calvary members and non-members alike—are welcome every Tuesday from September to June at Calvary to enjoy lively fellowship in a convivial atmosphere. Our schedule includes speakers, performers, movies, holiday events, and field trips. Some Tuesdays we serve a hot lunch prepared at Calvary for a modest fee ($2), other days we ask that you bring a brown bag lunch from home, or pick up a sandwich from one of the delis across the street (we provide drinks and dessert). Email Marion Stanton to be included on the newsletter mailing list, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Pacific Peace, Pacific War: The Golden Gate International Exposition
The Golden Gate International Exposition of 1939-1940 on Treasure Island was a beautiful and extravagant celebration of the construction of San Francisco’s two new bridges, the inauguration of trans-Pacific air travel, and a great show of community perseverance as the Great Depression dragged on. Even as America quietly prepared to enter the war that was engulfing much of the world, the GGIE celebrated art, science, technology, and fun. Anne Schnoebelen of the Treasure Island Museum will share photos and stories of this amazing world’s fair. Bring a brown bag lunch. Food Bank Tuesday.
