Families of Abraham Art Exhibit

September 29

Twenty years in the making, Families of Abraham mounts (at four neighborhood venues: Calvary, Sherith Israel, SF Islamic Society, and Think Round Fine Arts) a selection of 234 portraits of four Jewish, four Muslim, and four Christian families of different ethnicity whom have traveled to America to make their homes. Snapshots from family photo albums transcribed into Hardin’s genre painting offer an unexpected window into the shared human experiences that bridge the personal and the universal.  Taken together her vision is an evocative multimedia meditation on the experiences we share, regardless of faith, culture, or ethnicity, and centers on families who are followers of eleven major world religions.  On a symbolic level, these installations explore ideas about cultural self-definition, the pervasiveness of the American dream, the universality of, and new directions imagined for, the human family and their faiths. The show will run September 29 through December 29.

Please join us on Sunday, September 29 at 11:30 AM in the Library Lounge for an introduction to the art exhibit and a reception to follow. Meet the artist Heidi Hardin as she shares her inspiration and some insight into her work. Enjoy the paintings and bring your questions and curiosity. Light refreshments will be available.
