The Kids (of Calvary) are Alright! image

This year’s Youth Mission Trip to Arkansas in June was a powerful look at a part of the country many of Calvary’s kids have never experienced.

From our first night’s stay at Congregation B’Nai Israel to worship at Second Pres— both in Little Rock, we were able to combine fellowship and faith.

That first full day in Arkansas also saw us visit Central High School in Little Rock, one of the birthplaces of school integration in the south before we headed on to Perryville and Heifer Ranch, our home for the week.

While on Heifer Ranch — a 2,500 acre working CSA (community supported agriculture) ranch — we picked crops, took care of livestock (including milking goats) and learned about how Heifer Ranch and their parent organization Heifer International enable people all over the world to support themselves through sustainable agriculture and livestock.

We also spent one night in Heifer’s Global Village which is a simulation of the way that people live in a variety of places – from America’s Appalachia to the mountains of Tibet!

Adding in the blessing of a group of friends from San Francisco’s Congregation Sherith Israel and the other churches that joined us that week at Heifer Ranch, made for a thoughtful and inspirational (and fun … just see the photos below (thank you Jen Gee!!)) Youth Mission Trip 2014.
