Ephesians 4:12 "… to equip the saints …to build up the body of Christ…"
Calvary Presbyterian Church is dedicated to
helping people serve Christ based on their gifts
and passions. That is why we created Equipping Ministries in 2000 - to ensure that anyone interested in exploring ways in which their time and talents can help others is "equipped" with the training and resources to fulfill that mission.
The equipping process begins with a "Connecting Discussion", in which a member of the Equipping team meets with and assists individuals in identifying their interests and abilities and the complementary serving opportunities. Equipping Ministries exists solely find out where a member’s real enthusiasm for serving lies, using one-on-one discussions to help members find their passion.
Sometimes this means serving in the church, sometimes it means serving in the community. The equipping process makes it clear that each member is important and that Calvary wants everyone who wishes to, gets to serve where they feel called.
In this way people grow spiritually as they serve Christ.
Equipping Ministries also offers a semi-annual "Spiritual Gifts Class" for the entire congregation, at which time each member of Calvary can engage in exercises to discover (or rediscover) their spiritual gifts and how those gifts might best serve God and others. By allowing members to serve to their calling, we have seen many of them grow into leadership.
Calvary members ready for the increased responsibilities such as those undertaken by a deacon or elder are also assisted by the Equipping Ministries through leadership development classes.
If you are interested in participating in the development
of an Equipping Ministry, please contact Calvary's
Director of Equipping Ministries, Jim Dees. Jim has
kept a journal for the past seven years as he helped
to build Calvary's Equipping Ministry. His journal,
Growing an Equipping Church, charts Calvary’s
experience and offers suggestions for additional resources.
It is available to all churches interested in starting
or growing their own Equipping Ministry. |
