Committing Intentionally
"Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." -- 2 Corinthians 9:7
We are asking every member and friend of Calvary to Commit Intentionally to Calvary for 2010. As members in the body of Christ, we are asked to make a commitment of our time, talents and resources as a faithful response to God and as a statement of support for God's work. We are seeking an intentional commitment from 100% of the congregation via a pledge for 2010.
Over the next few months, we continue to reflect on the 5 Steps to Stewardship, with a sermon each month on one of those steps. As you consider your 2010 pledge, you can review the steps below, and read the linked sermons as you reflect and pray on your giving decision.
5 STEPS TO STEWARDSHIP
1) Respond gratefully (read corresponding sermon from 7/12/09)
All that we do is in response to God's grace. Everything
we are, have and use comes from God. It all begins
with God. Grateful stewards put God first. "...they
gave themselves first to the Lord" 2 Corinthians 8:5
2) Share abundantly (read corresponding sermon from 8/30/09)
The purpose of God's gifts is for the good of God's
community. We give to grow the body of Christ. We
use and share the gifts God has given us for the benefit
of all. "And God is able
to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so
that by always having enough of everything, you may
share abundantly in every good work." 2 Corinthians
9:8
3) Give willingly (read corresponding sermon from 9/27/09)
We have been prepared to give of ourselves. We give
our time, talents, and resources freely. "For
as I can testify, they voluntarily gave..." 2 Corinthians
8:3
4) Commit intentionally (read corresponding sermon from 10/18/09)
As members in the body of Christ, we are asked to
make a commitment of our time, talents, and resources
as a faithful response to God and as a statement of
support for God's work. "…arrange
in advance for this bountiful gift that you have promised."
2 Corinthians 9:5
5) Consider tithing (read corresponding sermon from 10/19/08)
A tithe is a tenth of a person's income that is provided
to support the work of the House of God, and those
who serve God in it. Please prayerfully consider tithing
as a goal. "Set apart a
tithe of all the yield of your seed that is brought
in yearly from the field." Deuteronomy 14:22
Together, these
scriptures and thoughts provide a wonderful guide
to Christian living.
Individually, they can provide
food for thought for each of us. Please consider your ability to commit to God's work through Calvary.
