Calvary Foundation

The Calvary Foundation makes financial grants to support the various missions of Calvary Presbyterian Church. Donations to the Foundation have helped tremendously in the underwriting of projects, programs and events such as:

- The St. Matthew Passion and St. Johns worship and lecture series
- Festival of Faith Weekends
- Repair of Calvary's pipe organ and outdoor church steps
- Hurrican Katrina relief
- San Francisco's Homeless Connect project
- Presbyterian Peacemaking Program

...and many more. If you would like to earmark a portion of any contributions to Calvary, please contact us with your questions.

Guidelines for Grant Applicants

Grant requests are welcomed throughout the year by the Calvary Foundation. Click here to print out a grant request form (.pdf), or contact Rachel Wolf, Administrative Assistant to the Pastors, for a hard copy to be sent to you (415.346.3832 or rachelwolf@calpres.org). The completed request should then be submitted via direct mail to Rachel here at the church, AND via email to foundation@calvarypresbyterian.org

The form requests ask for a description of the program or project to be funded. You will be asked to describe how the grant will fit in with the Foundation's stated goals, which seek to distribute funds in three major areas:

  • Outreach and Mission: Grants that promote the mission and activity of Calvary locally, nationally, or internationally;
  • Calvary Ministries: Seed money or special funding for education, the arts, and spiritual growth. In general, these will be new initiatives that would not fall within the church's normal operating budget. There is a two-year limit on funding for such ministries; and,
  • Capital Projects: In recognition of Calvary's landmark status, the Foundation considers capital projects that involve restoration and preservation. Such requests should be well-documented regarding scope, sequence and cost.

In general, before the Foundation trustees consider grant requests, the requests are reviewed by church leaders through the Mission Team and Commission structure. Applicants should bring requests first to a Mission Team or Commission chair for review and advice. Once approved, the Commission may bring the request to the church's Coordinating Council and Session. Session forwards approved requests to the Foundation, which meets quarterly to review grant requests. Trustees may also bring requests directly to the Board; if approved, they are then forwarded to Session.

If there are questions regarding this process, or if you need help identifying the best mission team to approach, you are welcome to contact one of the Foundation trustees, or the Pastors' administrative assistant:
